JACKSON -- Funeral service for Mildred Marie Johnson of Jackson will be held at 11 a.m. today at McCombs Funeral Chapel. The Revs. Lloyd Engleman and Dan Upchurch will officiate, with burial in Russell Heights Cemetery.
Johnson, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 1995, at Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Feb. 1, 1913, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Robert Lee and Mary Jane Hanners Cook. She married James Leonard Johnson Aug. 21, 1933, in Jackson. He died June 1, 1991.
Johnson taught at Burfordville School in 1932. She returned to teaching again in 1953 at Gravel Hill, Tilsit and Burfordville schools for a total of 26 years.
She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1959.
Johnson was a member of Missouri State Teachers Association, Jackson Retired Teachers, County Line Baptist Church, and had been active in the Cape Girardeau Baptist Association.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Wilhite of Cape Girardeau, Betty Crites of Bloomington, Ill.; a son, Robert Johnson of Jackson; three sisters, Beula Reynolds of Jackson, Betty Upchurch of Marble Hill, Ruth Drennan of Knob Lick; four brothers, the Rev. Lee Cook of Camp Verde, Ariz., Raymond Cook of Burfordville, Truman Cook of Sun City and Lakeside, Ariz., Kenneth Cook of Marble Hill; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
