JACKSON -- Mildred Marie Cook Johnson, 82, of Jackson died Sunday, Sept. 24, 1995, at Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Feb. 1, 1913, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Robert Lee and Mary Jane Hanners Cook. She married James Leonard Johnson Aug. 21, 1933, in Jackson. He died June 1, 1991.
She taught at Burfordville School in 1932. She returned to teaching again in 1953, at Gravel Hill, Tilsit and Burfordville schools for a total of 26 years. She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1959.
She was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association and the Jackson Retired Teachers. She was a member of County Line Baptist Church and had attended both the First Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau and the First Baptist Church of Jackson and had been active in organizations of the Cape Girardeau Baptist Association.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Dean White of Cape Girardeau and Betty Ruth Crites of Bloomington, Ill.; a son, Robert Louis Johnson of Jackson; three sisters, Beula Reynolds of Jackson, Betty Upchurch of Marble Hille and Ruth Drennan of Knob Lick; four brothers, the Rev. Lee Cook of Camp Verde, Ariz., Raymond Cook of Burfordville, Truman Cook of Sun City and Lakeside, Ariz., and Kenneth Cook of Marble Hill; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, where funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Lloyd Engleman and the Rev. Dan Upchurch will officiate, and burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
