MILDRED ABERNATHY

ZALMA -- Mildred Icy Abernathy, 86, of Zalma died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born April 10, 1913, at Zalma, daughter of Gilbert and Rozina Gaines Sturgeon. She and Oral Abernathy were married Oct. 20, 1934, at Marble Hill. He died Feb. 20, 1996...

ZALMA -- Mildred Icy Abernathy, 86, of Zalma died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born April 10, 1913, at Zalma, daughter of Gilbert and Rozina Gaines Sturgeon. She and Oral Abernathy were married Oct. 20, 1934, at Marble Hill. He died Feb. 20, 1996.

Abernathy was a cook at Zalma School for 17 years.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy and Jack Abernathy of Zalma; two daughters, Dolores Jackson of Zalma, Shannon Shell of Marble Hill; a brother, Milfred Sturgeon of Zalma; two sisters, Rita Durham of Dexter, Marie Snider of Edwardsville, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Friends may call at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Rudy Pittman officiating. Burial will be in Berrong Cemetery at Gipsy.
