Charles Michael "Mike" Wood, 82, of Jackson passed away Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Mike (also known as Mikey, Woody, Brother and, later, as Husband, Dad and, finally, as Grandpa) was born Nov. 1, 1937, in Cape Girardeau, the son of Sewell and Daisy Macke Wood. He and Estelle Seabaugh were married June 12, 1960, in Jackson. She survives.
Mike surrendered to his last and final battle against cancer on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020. Now, all fish, in particular, largemouth bass, crappie and bluegill, can swim with a little ease and peace of mind as he was a Missouri Master Angler, expert in fly-tying and a lunker lure craftsman. In addition, he was a true professional at making and restoring wooden trunks, was a lord at the game of hunting and many other things as well.
Mike truly enjoyed his time fishing and sharing his fishing stories. If Mike were here today, he would say, "If you teach a man to fish, he will never go hungry." Estelle, his four daughters, and the rest of his family will share that "Dad taught many to fish, and the story goes that you will never go hungry fishing with one of Mike's bugs."
Mike would also want to thank his dear wife, Estelle, for all her support throughout their life together and the loving care given through his health battles with cancer.
Loving survivors include his wife of 60 years; daughters, Cindy Wood, Christine (Cliff) Watson, Catherine (Jim) Gleason and Cheralyn (Duncan) Ballantyne; grandchildren, Rachel and Rebecca Gleason and Ryan and Aidan Watson, all of Dallas; twin brother, Richard "Dick" (Brenda) Wood of Jackson; and many dear and close friends.
He was greeted at the gates of Heaven by his parents, Sewell and Daisy Wood; sister, Betty Landgraf; and many family and friends.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral will follow at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
