Robert Michael "Mike" Cord Sr., 68, of Jackson, formerly of Piedmont, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 24, 1947, in St. Louis, the son of Robert A. and Iris S. Guess Cord.

Mike was a graduate of Bossier High School in Bossier City, Louisiana.

He enjoyed playing youth-league baseball and made the all-star team while he and his family lived in Spain.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army from Nov. 22, 1966, until being honorably discharged Oct. 21, 1968.

Mike worked as a welder and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He moved from Piedmont to Jackson five years ago.

Loving survivors include his father, Bob Cord of Jackson, and a son, Robert "Michael" Cord Jr. of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
