Michelle Newton Rhodes, 47, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at Mercy Hospital St. Louis in St. Louis.
She was born March 15, 1969, in Hayti, Missouri, to Kenneth E. and Nova L. Butler Newton.
Michelle was a 1987 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She worked for Mid-America Hotels as a front-desk attendant at the former Victorian Inn.
While Michelle did not have children of her own, she loved spending time with kids. She was also very fond of animals, especially cats.
Survivors include her parents, Ken and Nova Newton of Cape Girardeau; grandmother, Emma Newton of Caruthersville, Missouri; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Thomas Newton and Fred and Mabel Butler.
Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary, 359 Cree Lane, Jackson, MO 63755.
