Michael Welker

Michael Anthony Welker, 73, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, Jan, 23, 2021, at home.

He was born July 7, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, the son of Luther John and Audrey Thelma Rhodes Welker. He was married to Carole A. Bess, who preceded him in death July 29, 1998.

Michael attended Cape Central High School. He had a passion for cooking, so he followed that desire by going to culinary school. He also enjoyed horticulture.

Michael had previously worked at Florsheim Shoe Co., Lemmons Restaurant in St. Louis, and had been chef at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

Loving survivors include three children, Tamara Baker, Chris (Celine Finney) Welker of Austin, Texas, and Michael Welker of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren, Hadley and Braeden Bowen, Jacob Welker, Anais King, Makayla and Jordan Welker; three great-grandchildren, Zane, Raelynn, and Ryelle Bowen; and anticipating the birth of a new great-grandchild; and a sister, Bonnie Hahs of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Whittley Dabbs; two brothers, Marvin and Bobby Welker; a sister, Patsy Higgins; and a special niece, Teri Poole.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
