COMMERCE, Mo. -- Michael Van Urhahn, 38, died peacefully and unexpectedly in his sleep, Sunday, July 31, 2011, at his home near Commerce.
He was born Dec. 12, 1972, in Cape Girardeau to Larry and Judy Scherer Urhahn of Benton, Mo.
Michael was a 1991 graduate of Thomas W. Kelly High School.
He and Libby Jo LeDure, high school classmate and daughter of Pam and Roy LeDure, were married in 1993 and later blessed with births of a son, Landon, and a daughter, Mallory, who survive of the home.
Michael was an avid outdoorsman, loved nature, baseball and basketball. He coached many Little League and youth teams in Benton and at Kelly Elementary School, including those of Landon and Mallory.
He and Libby and the extended family traveled everywhere the sports were being played and were actively involved in their children's and families lives.
Throughout his life, Michael was known to be a great guy, a skilled craftsman with woodworking and other construction materials and was employed with the city of Scott City where he maintained the beauty of the city's landscaping, parks and recreation areas.
Survivors include his wife Libby; a son, Landon Michael Urhahn; a daughter, Mallory Ann Urhahn; his father, Lawrence "Larry" Van Urhahn; and parents-in-law, Roy (Pam Wright) LeDure.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton, with the Rev. Michael Casteel as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Denis Cemetery.
