Michael Louis Tomlin, 78 of Jackson passed away Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 9, 1943, in Marshall, Missouri, to the late Malcolm and Mildred Zimmerman Tomlin. Mike and Terri Gohn were married Sept. 16, 1978, in Jackson.
Mike graduated from Jefferson City (Missouri) High School in 1961 and attended Northwest Missouri State University. He was a self-employed insurance broker since 1968 and owned Tomlin Insurance Agency in Jackson. Mike also owned Trooper Sporting Clays and Hunt Club and was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church.
Mike was as a Charter member of the Jackson Elks, founding donor of the Jackson R-2 School Foundation and member of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce. He loved to work on his Whitewater River farm, fish and quail hunt all over Cape Girardeau County with his bird dogs. In his younger years, Mike was a great bowler and a private pilot.
Mike was fortunate to travel with Aetna Insurance Co. associates to Italy, France, Germany, Peru, Spain. Day trips in his red Corvette pleased him greatly. He enjoyed keeping up with his grandchildren's sporting activities. Mike was very generous and always willing to help people and special charities.
Survivors include his wife, Terri of Jackson; children, Suzanne (Mark) Beall of Morrison, Colorado, Michelle (Steven) Ross, of Brentwood, Missouri, and Josh (Susan) Tomlin of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Regan, Camryn, and Kendall Beall of Morrison, Alec Turner and Anna Ross of Brentwood; and sister-in-law, Joey Tomlin of Jefferson City, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John Tomlin and David Tomlin.
Many thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for him through the past four years as well as the Jackson Fire Department personnel who provided assistance.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at Ford and Sons Funeral Home in Jackson.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery.
