Michael C. "Mickey" Thompson, 65, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born Oct. 13, 1940, in Murphysboro, Ill., son of Lilburn and Minnie Braswell Thompson. Michael C. "Mickey" Thompson, 65, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 13, 1940, in Murphysboro, Ill., son of Lilburn and Minnie Braswell Thompson.

Mickey had worked as a mechanic at McDonald Concrete in Cape Girardeau since 1971, and previously worked for Luhr Brothers. In 1977 he helped originate the Millersville Fire Department, where he served as a firefighter, captain, chief, and just recently retired from the board.

He was a member of Cape County Firefighters Association and served on its board for several years, and also served with the Public Water District in Millersville.

Mickey's favorite hobby was bass fishing. He was an active member of Perryville Bass Masters and especially enjoyed helping disabled children learn to fish.

Loving survivors include two daughters, Michele (Charlie) Griffith of Oak Ridge, Susan Jenkins of Belleville, Ill.; a son, Bryan Thompson of Sedgewickville, Mo.; a sister, Sue (Ronnie) Catlett of Carbondale, Ill.; and a brother, Randy (Karen) Thompson of Baxter, Tenn.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Brandy Williams of Jackson, Brandon and Landon Thompson of Sedgewickville, Judi and Ashley McCoy of Belleville; and two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Whitney Beckett of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson today from 4 to 8 p.m., and Sunday from noon to service time.

The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Morris Cobb officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery, with funeral procession and firefighter honors by the Millersville Fire Department.
