Michael Loyd Slinkard, 69, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, at his home.
He was born June 3, 1949, in Cape Girardeau to Loyd and Benita Irene "Peg" Benton Slinkard. He and Sharon Sander were married June 4, 1970, at Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death April 9, 1991.
He served his country in Vietnam and Germany in the U.S. Army and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3838.
He was part owner/operator of Loyd Slinkard Painting over 40 years. He was very active in Gideons International Missouri Cabinet and was a member of Red Star Baptist Church. Michael loved birds, shopping and gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Heather Natasha (Charles) Amic of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Christopher Michael (Jennifer) Slinkard and Timothy Daniel Slinkard, both of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Peggy Slinkard of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Mark (Robin) Slinkard of Cape Girardeau and Scott (Barbara) Slinkard of Millersville; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Billy Garner officiating. Burial will be at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Gideons International or to the Red Star Food Pantry.
