CHARLESTON -- Funeral service for Michael Alton Nicholson of Charleston will be held at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Gerald Collier will officiate, assisted by the Revs. Marvin Butrum and Dolan Rogers. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie.

McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston is in charge of arrangements.

Nicholson, 12, died Sunday, March 17, 1996, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Ky., from injuries received while on a Boy Scout outing in Kentucky.

He was born Jan. 27, 1984, in Cape Girardeau, son of Grayling and Gale Pearson Nicholson.

Nicholson was a sixth grade student at A.L. Webb Elementary School in East Prairie. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Charleston, Boy Scout Troop 323 of Charleston, Bullet basketball team of the Midget League in East Prairie, National Bicycle League, and the Sikeston Cotton Mouth BMX Association.

Survivors include his parents; a sister, Jennifer Nicholson of the home; maternal grandparents, John and Wanda Pearson of Charleston, and paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Christine Nicholson of Newport, Ark.
