Michael Wayne Gateley, 63, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at his home in Gravel Hill, Mo.
He was born Aug. 19, 1948, in Chaffee, Mo., to Franklin W. and Lodis V. Loucks Gateley. He and Mary Ladine Davenport-Haners were married June 8, 1991.
Mike attended Chaffee High School and honorably served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He then worked many years as a self-employed auto mechanic.
Mike's grandchildren have a special place in his heart, and he thoroughly enjoyed his time with them. He was an avid reader, storyteller and hunter. He will especially be remembered for his willingness to drop whatever he was doing to go help someone else.
Loving survivors include his wife of 20 years, Ladine of Gravel Hill; two stepsons, Jeff (Cheryl) Hanners and Mike (Jeannie) Hanners; and a stepdaughter, Brenda Hanners, all of Jackson; three granddaughters, Katie, Ashley and Alicia Hanners; and a grandson, Miles Hanners.
Also surviving are seven siblings, Danny Ray (Rita) Davenport of Oak Ridge, Jackie (Gene) Martin of Scott City, Jo Ann (Bud) Sells of Mobile, Ala., Kathy (Steve) Moyers of Cunningham, Ky., Jeri Eichhorn of Chaffee, Sandy (Dennis) Mertz of Phoenix, Pam (Les) Davenport of Oran, Mo., a stepbrother, Vernon (Mary) Davenport; and a stepsister, Glenda Adams, all of Gravel Hill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Michael Williams; and a great-nephew, Wesley Williams.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Morris Cobb and Elijah Allen officiating.
Interment will follow in Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee with graveside military honors.
