SIKESTON -- Mergie Mae Johnson, 75, of 212 Petroleum, Sikeston, died Wednesday, June 21, 1995, at her home.
She was born March 5, 1920, in New Madrid County, daughter of Walter M. and Ethel Duke Nelson.
She had returned to this area in 1980 after living for some time in St. Louis and Jackson, Miss. She was a housewife and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
On Nov. 15, 1938, she married Allen L. Johnson in New Madrid. He survives.
Other survivors are four daughters, Barbara Ayers and Beverly Johnson, both of Sikeston, Susan Berry of Memphis, Tenn., and Joyce Ann Cummins of Gig Harbor, Wash.; two brothers, Wallace "Cotton" Nelson and Spurlin "Dickie" Nelson, both of Sikeston; three sisters, Elsie Wyatt and Violet Shelby, both of Sikeston, and Wanda Scarbrough of Marietta, Ga.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, two sisters and four brothers.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, Sikeston.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Bryan Davis of the First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
