CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Graveside service for Melvin C. "Barney" Thurman of Charleston will be held at 1 p.m. today at Anniston Cemetery. Martin Lucas will officiate.
Friends may call after 11 a.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, Mo.
Thurman, 82, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at Charleston Manor Nursing Center.
He was born Feb. 15, 1919, in Anniston, Mo., son of William A. "Bulger" and Jessie Ann Johnson Thurman.
Thurman served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include 10 nieces, Sally Cox, Jessie Graham, Martha Humphreys, Paula Meeks, Gail Faire and Rosie McClendon of Charleston, Mary Vinson of Wyatt, Mo., Patsy Stark and Doris Graham of Springfield, Mo., Maxine Geers of Bertrand, Mo.; and a nephew, John Thurman of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and a sister.
