Melvin Nanney

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Melvin Lynn Nanney, 81, of Marble Hill died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Aug. 1, 1926, at Scopus, Mo., son of William Asa and Alice Jane Nations Nanney. He and Sibyl Ward were married Dec. 19, 1967.

Nanney was a machine operator in the maintenance department of Missouri Pacific Railroad. He was a member of First General Baptist Church in Jackson, and of Maintenance Way AFLCIO Union.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Donald Nanney of Leopold, Mo., Mitchell Nanney of Marble Hill, Mark Nall of Cleveland, Michael Nall of Millersville; four brothers, Lee, Alfred and Bobby Nanney of Marble Hill, Cecil Nanney of Advance, Mo.; five sisters, Stella Carmen of Manchester, Mo., Nancy Dockins, Thelma Nanney and Velma Cook of Marble Hill, Louise Smith of Imperial, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, four brothers and a sister.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Luther Rhodes and Fred Ritter officiating. Burial will be in Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors provided by Missouri Military Honors Team.
