Melvin "M.G." Cook, son of the late Clarence Melvin and Clara Marie Wylder Cook, was born Jan. 21, 1937, in Fornfelt and departed his life Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023, at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau at the age of 86 years. Melvin Cook

Melvin "M.G." Cook, son of the late Clarence Melvin and Clara Marie Wylder Cook, was born Jan. 21, 1937, in Fornfelt and departed his life Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023, at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau at the age of 86 years.

He was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church in Scott City was also a member of the BLE. M.G. was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, loved playing cards, watching the grandkids play ball and music.

On May 15, 1982, he married Sandra Chidster in Belleville, Illinois. She survives.

Apart from his wife, he is also survived by three sons, Tom Hughes of Benton, Missouri, V.G. Cook of Houston and Eric (Karla) White of Scott City; two daughters, Rhonda (John) Smith and Kelly (Ronald) Watson, both of Scott City; two brothers, Freddie (Barb) Cook of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Eddie (Nancy) Cook of Yuma, Arizona; five grandchildren, Stephen (Shauna) Cook, Dalton Smith, Carson Smith, Kobe Watson and Skylar Watson; three great-granddaughters, many nieces and nephews and one very special dog, Domino.

Along with his parents, M.G. was preceded in death by four brothers, Norman, Billy, Tommy and Allen Cook; and two sisters, Laura Stone and Carolyn Brown.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

Funeral Service will follow at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Tommy Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Lightner Memorial Cemetery in Scott City.
