Melvin Amelunke, 95, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at the Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Nov. 28, 1926, to Henry and Opal Hitt Amelunke. He and Jessie Iola Crites were married May 9, 1946, in Cape Girardeau.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Melvin was a member of American Legion Post 63, as well as New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandra (Robert) LeVan of Henderson, Nevada, and Carolyn (Virgil) Schreckenberg and Donna (Rick) Martin, both of Whitewater; five sons, Michael (Nancy) Amelunke of Columbia, Missouri; Ronald Amelunke and Steven (Kim) Amelunke, both of Whitewater; Wesley (Diane) Amelunke of Chaffee, Missouri; and Gary (Andy Cox) Amelunke of Fort Myers, Florida; 17 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a sister.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
