ST. LOUIS -- Mayford Charles Warren, 92, of St. Louis died Monday, May 3, 2021, at the Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri.
Mayford was born March 3, 1929, in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, son of Alonzo M. and Hazel R. Cox Warren and stepson of Louis E. Vessell. He and Norma Jean Wagner were married May 12, 1951, at Marble Hill, Missouri.
Survivors include his wife; son, Stuart R. Warren, and wife, Catherine "Kate" S. Krause of McAllen, Texas; daughter, Rebecca A. Warren, and husband, Richard D. Arnold of St. Louis; stepsister, Patricia A. Nacci of Fairview Heights, Illinois; granddaughters, Linnea K. Warren May, and husband, Jerry D. May of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Olivia K. Warren Phillips, and husband, Weston J. Phillips of Pittsburgh.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gloria June Lucas of Glen Allen, Missouri; and stepfather.
He entered the U.S. Army in 1951 during the Korean War as a special agent in the Counter Intelligence Corps.
He attended and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor of science degree, Vanderbilt University with a master of arts and St. Louis University with a doctorate. He was a teacher and administrator for 27 years in the Webster Groves School District in St. Louis. After his retirement, he worked as a commercial real estate broker.
He was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Family and friends will deeply miss him.
There will be a graveside service at noon Friday at Crestlawn Cemetery in Ste. Genevieve. Military services will be performed by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2210.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gideons International or the Alzheimer's Association.
