Maxine Powless

TAMMS, Ill. -- Maxine Powless, 86, of Tamms died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at Daystar Care Center in Cairo, Ill.

She was born March 30, 1918, in Mulkeytown, Ill., daughter of James and Rosie Harris Fite. She and Gerald Powless were married June 27, 1942. He died Feb. 7, 1991.

Powless was a member of Alexander Free Will Baptist Church and Ladies Auxiliary. She had been a volunteer at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include a son, Gary Powless of Media, Ill.; a daughter, Betty Livesay of Wolf Lake, Ill.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Earnest Brown officiating. Burial will be in McCrite Cemetery.
