Maxine Goehring, 96, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at her home.

She was born Dec. 23, 1923, in Avert, Missouri, to John and Pauline True Bollinger. On Dec. 24, 1947, she married Russell Goehring Sr. They were married 49 years at the time of his death.

Maxine graduated from Advance (Missouri) High School. In her early years, she worked as a waitress at Colonial Restaurant. She was also employed as a sales associate with J.C. Penney for more than 19 years, and she worked in the gift shop at Southeast Hospital for many years.

Maxine was a very talented seamstress and quilter, making beautiful quilts for her family. She volunteered her time by making hundreds of puppets and blankets for children who were patients of Southeast Hospital. She also volunteered at Trinity Lutheran Church on Fridays, folding the Sunday bulletin, where she was a faithful member.

Maxine loved to play board games with her granddaughters, and she enjoyed playing cards and pinochle with her friends.

Survivors include her sons, Russell Goehring Jr. and David (Joan) Goehring; granddaughters, Lesley (Bryan) Ross and Lauren (Jonathan) Schlitt; great-grandson, Ethan Ross; and sisters, Geraldine Choate Barks, Mildred Felker and Marjorie Gaines. Maxine is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Vernon Bollinger; and sister, Louise Francis.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn funeral Home, with the Rev. Douglas Breite officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, 100 N. Frederick St., Cape Girardeau, MO 63701, or Humane Society of Southeast Missouri, 2536 Boutin Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
