SIKESTON, MO. -- Maurice Laverne "Vern" Rigsby, 74, of Sikeston died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at Clearview Nursing Center.
He was born Feb. 26, 1928, in Indiana, son of James and Gertrude Rigsby. He and Barbara Lee Tackitt were married Oct. 8, 1948. She died May 15, 2002.
Mr. Rigsby was a retail store manager. He owned Dexter 5 & 10 Store and an additional store in Bloomfield, Mo. He had lived at Warner Robins, Ga., and Dexter, Mo., moving to Sikeston eight years ago. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
He was a Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Tammy Rigsby of Anderson, S.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Roger Suedekum of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren; Jamie Suedekum and Kelly Suedekum of Cape Girardeau, Rodney and Erica Rigsby and Brant Rigsby of Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Friends may call at Blanchard Funeral Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Matthew Butrum officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
