The world lost a loving mother, caring soul and one of the strongest women to walk the earth. Maureen Kooyer Simpkins, 69, of Scott City, passed away unexpectedly on April 25, 2021, after a single-vehicle accident. She was born in Rockford, Illinois, and later married Don Kooyer. They had two sons, Brendon Kooyer (Jessica) of Jackson, and Daniel Kooyer (Cindy Garland) of Cape Girardeau. After Don's passing, Maureen later married Jerry Simpkins of Scott City. The world lost a loving mother, caring soul and one of the strongest women to walk the earth. Maureen Kooyer Simpkins, 69, of Scott City, passed away unexpectedly on April 25, 2021, after a single-vehicle accident.

She was born in Rockford, Illinois, and later married Don Kooyer. They had two sons, Brendon Kooyer (Jessica) of Jackson, and Daniel Kooyer (Cindy Garland) of Cape Girardeau. After Don's passing, Maureen later married Jerry Simpkins of Scott City. Jerry also preceded her in death.

Maureen worked in the healthcare field most of her life. She had a passion for helping others and really cared for her patients like family. She loved scrapbooking and reading in her spare time.

Maureen is survived by her two sons, three sisters, Jan Hess (the late Bill Hess) of Petersburg, Illinois; Lisa Cihon of Chesterfield, Missouri; and Annette (Sam) Johnson of Jacksonville, Florida; three grandchildren, Dylan, Alyssa and Ella; and many nephews and nieces.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date.

The arrangements were under the care of Liley Cremation Services in Cape Girardeau.
