CYPRESS, Ill. -- Maudie Smith Mecum, 82, of Marion, formerly of Cypress, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at Marion Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 28, 1915, in Metropolis, daughter of Joseph and Birdia Harmon Spurlock. She first married Wayward Smith, who died in 1965. She later married Norwood Mecum.
Mecum was a member of Luther's Chapel United Methodist Church in Cypress.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Norma Turner of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; three sisters, Lois Schnaare of Brookport, Lorene Hefner of Perks, Jenny Kerley of Metropolis; a brother, Barney Spurlock of Karnak; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak. The Rev. Earl Black will officiate, with burial in Luther's Chapel Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time.
