MAUDE HIGGINBOTHAM

Graveside service for Maude J. Higginbotham of Chapel Hill, N.C., was held Tuesday at Memorial Park. The Rev. Cy Smith officiated.

Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

A memorial service was held Sunday at Aldersgate Methodist Church in Chapel Hill.

Higginbotham, 96, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Britthaven Nursing Home in Chapel Hill.

She was born Jan. 22, 1901, at Grassy, daughter of George B. and Virginia Tankersley Myers. She and E.B. "Dick" Higginbotham were married June 16, 1930, in Fresno, Calif. He died April 18, 1982.

Higginbotham was a 1926 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. She was a public school teacher many years, and had taught at Central High School in Cape Girardeau and at Malden schools. She was a member of Aldersgate Church, and former member of Malden Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Don Higginbotham of Chapel Hill; three grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.
