Matthew J. "Matt" Peters of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at his home in Cape Girardeau. He was born Sept. 24, 1936, in Leopold, Mo., a son of the late Theodore and Catherine Hinkebein Peters.

He and Mary M. "Maggie" Dohogne were married Sept. 27, 1969, in Chaffee, Mo.

Mr. Peters served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 15, 1959, to March 1, 1962.

He worked in construction and also for Peters Supply Company of Lutesville. He later became an employee of the U. S. Postal Service in Lutesville and Cape Girardeau. He retired as manager of customer service after a postal career of 34 years.

Mr. Peters was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Knights of Columbus Council 11205, Fourth Degree Thomas Langen Assembly and Elks Lodge 639.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Julie Peters of Cape Girardeau; and a son, Jason Peters of Madison, Wis.

0ther survivors are his brothers Ambrose Peters and wife Pat, Januar Peters and wife Martha, Ted Peters and Mark Peters, all of Marble Hill; his sisters, Sister Marie Ambrose Peters, S.S.N.D. of St. Louis, Marjie Eftink and husband Gus of Marble Hill, and Bonny Diebold of Dresden, Tenn. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Martha B. Peters of Marble Hill.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Xavier (F.X.) Peters of Marble Hill.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. A vigil service will be held at 7 with a Knights of Columbus rosary immediately following led by Knights of Columbus Council 11205.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Church or to Knights of Columbus Council 11205 of Cape Girardeau.
