Mary Esther Werner, 88, of Cape Girardeau died at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Jackson to Albert and Esther Kibler Herbst. She and Eugene Edward Werner were married March 22, 1947. He preceded her in death May 9, 2010.

Mary was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau for over 66 years.

She worked at the Trinity cafeteria and volunteered for 17 years at the Lutheran Home with the auxiliary. She enjoyed crafts and auxiliary projects. Mary lived at The Lutheran Home at Assisted Living East for the past two years.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Bill) Dillon of Sikeston, Missouri, Nancy (Wes) Morris of Gordonville and Linda (Bill) Border of Fairbury, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Alan (Christie) Schoen, Melanie (Darrell) Smith, Diane Faller, Kyle Miner, Sara Miner, Kelsey Miner, Lindsay Miner, Byron Dillon; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Harold (Dorothy) Herbst of Farmington, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Albert Herbst.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Loren Boettcher officiating. Interment will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Saxony Lutheran High School. Envelopes will be available at the church and funeral home.
