Mary Aleene Wampler, 88, of Jackson died Friday, May 8, 2020, at Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Nov. 30, 1931, in Whitewater to Thomas O. and Ida Idell Kinder Morgan. She and Norvel E. Wampler were married Jan. 20, 1950, in Whitewater. He preceded her in death Nov. 2, 2016.
She graduated from College High School in Cape Girardeau in 1949. Over the years, she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and Cape Girardeau Central High School's cafeteria.
She was very active as a Sunday school teacher, choir member and sang in a double trio at First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. In her later years, she was a member of Rock of Cape Church and then a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson at the time of her passing. She had a great love for her family and was well known for her delicious homemade pies.
Survivors include her two daughters, Karen (Dean) Johnson of Jackson and Joyce (Tim) Hawkins of Montgomery, Indiana; four grandchildren, Julia (Brent) Bowman of Buford, Georgia, Travis (Stacie) Johnson of Hanford, California, and Jason Hawkins and Nick Hawkins, both of Montgomery, Indiana; five great-grandchildren, Christian Bowman and Allie Bowman, both of Buford, and Corinne Johnson, Benjamin Johnson and Anniston Johnson, all of Hanford, California; nephew, Michael Morgan of Cape Girardeau; two nieces, Barbara Kuelker of St. Claire, Missouri, and Sarah Davis of Cape Girardeau; many of Norvel's nieces and nephews in various states; two sisters-in-law; and one brother-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Norvel Wampler; brother, Richard Allan Morgan; and many sisters and brothers in-law.
Private visitation and funeral service will be Wednesday at Ford and Sons Funeral Home-Jackson, with the Rev. Elijah Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
