Mary Helen Unnerstall, 85, passed away Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

She was born April 7, 1923, in Zalma, Mo., to Roscoe and Clara Glasener McKee, both deceased. Mary married Bob Unnerstall May 2, 1942, in Cape Girardeau.

Aside from a brief move to California, Mary and Bob spent their lives in Colorado. As a young couple they lived in Englewood near her parents and sister, Christine Lawson (and family), before settling in Northglenn. Mary Helen retired from a career in retail sales when Bob was paralyzed in a work accident. They had a good life together until Bob's death Aug. 16, 1996.

Mary then moved to Arab, Mo., to be near her brother, Charles Avon McKee, and his family. In the fall of 2005, Mary Helen moved to Colorado Springs with Charles and wife Shirley. The following year Charles died. Mary lived in her own apartment with the help of her sister-in-law, Shirley, until she was diagnosed with leukemia in June of this year.

Mary Helen is survived by a sister, Christine Lawson of Englewood; a brother-in-law, Bud Unnerstall and wife Jan of Douglas, Wyo.; a sister-in-law, Shirley McKee of Colorado Springs. Mary Helen is also survived by many nieces and nephews and lifelong friends Alta Unnerstall of California and Betty Doolittle of Wyoming.
