Mary Townsend, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Aug. 25, 1996, at Meridian Manor Nursing Home in Mounds, Ill. She was born Aug. 6, 1921, in Olive Branch, Ill., daughter of Clarence I. and Mattie Orr Holmes. She first married Elmer "Jack" Johnson, who died in 1954. She then married Russell "Swede" Warner, who died in 1982, and later married Charles Townsend, who died in 1989...

Mary Townsend, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Aug. 25, 1996, at Meridian Manor Nursing Home in Mounds, Ill.

She was born Aug. 6, 1921, in Olive Branch, Ill., daughter of Clarence I. and Mattie Orr Holmes. She first married Elmer "Jack" Johnson, who died in 1954. She then married Russell "Swede" Warner, who died in 1982, and later married Charles Townsend, who died in 1989.

Townsend was a member of Bethel Pentecostal Church in McEwen, Tenn.

Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Rodgers of Scott City, Jackie Baker of Waverly, Tenn.; four sons, Charles Menees Jr. of Hudson, Fla., Bill Menees of DeKalb, Ill., Robert Johnson of Jerseyville, Ill., Fred Warner of Tamms, Ill.; two brothers, Orie Holmes of Monrovia, Calif., Aaron Holmes of Granite City, Ill.; a sister, Blanche Dunn of St. Louis; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, infant daughter, a sister, and three brothers.

Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms after 5 p.m. Wednesday, and Thursday until service time.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ernest Browning officiating. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery.
