BERTRAND, Mo. -- Mary Louise Maxwell Sweet, 73, of Bertrand died Friday, May 13, 2011, at the Miner Nursing Center.

Born Sept. 15, 1937, at Sikeston, Mo., to the late Loren and Ora Morehead Maxwell, she had lived in Scott and Mississippi counties her entire life. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bertrand, where she was a Sunday school teacher, having taught the discipleship class. She was employed with the Brown Shoe Co. in Charleston, Mo., a number of years and then the Bertrand Nursing Center until her retirement.

Surviving are: two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony (Janice) Sweet of Cape Girardeau and Maxwell (Melissa) Sweet of Charleston; one daughter, Marie Warren of Bertrand; one brother, Robert "Bob" Maxwell of Charleston; one sister, Doris Bone of Charleston; four grandchildren, Andrew Sweet, Melissa Valentino, Lauren Sweet and Phillip Warren; and two great-grandchildren, Kaylee Sweet and Brandon Bazan.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jeanne Burchfield and Lora Mae Meeks.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Robert Herring of Cape Girardeau and Tom Ayers, interim pastor of First Baptist Church of Bertrand, officiating.

Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.

Pallbearers will be Robert "Bob"Maxwell, Tony Sweet, Maxwell Sweet, Andrew Sweet, Phillip Warren and David Peters.

The family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Bertrand, P.O. Box 39, Bertrand, MO 63823.
