CAIRO, Ill. -- Mary Clayton Sullivan, 87, of Lewisville, Texas, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2007, following a long illness.
Mary was born Nov. 24, 1919, in Mississippi County, Mo., to Arthur and Lula Clayton.
After graduation from high school she moved to Cairo to attend nursing school. She worked as a registered nurse in the Tuberculosis Sanitarium and at St. Mary's Hospital in Cairo. Mary retired from nursing to devote her love and attention to her family.
Mary is survived by a daughter, Susan Sullivan Josey and husband Tom of Highland Village, Texas; a sister, Stella Bryant of Sikeston, Mo.; four grandchildren, Ashley Sullivan, Brian Sullivan, Matthew Sullivan and Rob Josey; and three great-grandchildren, Cameron, Clayton and Matti Sullivan; and special friends, Regina and Eddie Davis.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Sullivan in 2005; a brother, Jack Clayton; and four sisters, Beatrice Leible, Clara Spaulding, Ruth Hargan, and Margaret Ellen Clayton.
Mary was a loving mother and friend to many. She always had a smile and wonderful sense of humor. Mary's loving touch and positive attitude influenced those who knew her.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo.
Friends may visit from 10-11 a.m. Friday.
Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville was in charge of arrangements in Texas.
Mary's family requests that memorial contributions be made in Mary's name to your local Alzheimer's Association.
