OLMSTED, Ill. -- Mary Helen Staten, 77, of Olmsted died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, at Shawnee Christian Nursing Home in Herrin.
She was born May 11, 1919, in New Columbia, daughter of Julius and Nora Simmons Holmes. She married Alvin T. "Abby" Staten, who died Nov. 28, 1994.
Staten retired as a cook from Voigt's Restaurant. She was a member of Boaz Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Underhile of Marion, Kay Sharp of Vienna; a son, Bobby Whitehead of Karnak; a brother, Bud Holmes of Olmsted; three sisters, Ella Richards of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Virginia Atherton of Dongola, Betty Duffield of Olmsted; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge from 6-9 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Goines officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery.
