BENTON, Mo. -- Mary Ellen Shuffit, 81, of Benton died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She was born Sept. 20, 1921, at Morley, Mo., daughter of George Miles and Birdie O'Neal. She and J.W. Shuffit were married July 26, 1951. He died in April 1980...

BENTON, Mo. -- Mary Ellen Shuffit, 81, of Benton died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born Sept. 20, 1921, at Morley, Mo., daughter of George Miles and Birdie O'Neal. She and J.W. Shuffit were married July 26, 1951. He died in April 1980.

Shuffit was employed as a clerk at Scott County Health Department for 41 years. She was a member of Benton United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW in Morley.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Stallings of Benton.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters and one grandson.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Old Morley Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Matthews will officiate.
