ELCO, Ill. -- Mary Rachel James Sowers, 93, of West Frankfort, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1992, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was born April 7, 1899, in Elco, daughter of John Ellsworth and Mary Ella Lentz Newell. She married Darrell James, who died July 31, 1954...

ELCO, Ill. -- Mary Rachel James Sowers, 93, of West Frankfort, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1992, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born April 7, 1899, in Elco, daughter of John Ellsworth and Mary Ella Lentz Newell. She married Darrell James, who died July 31, 1954.

Sowers was a member of Elco Methodist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Eileen Smithey of Las Vegas, Nev., Ella Poole of West Frankfort, Mary Poole of Dongola; a son, Darrell E. James of Tamms; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms from 6-9 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Al Slayter officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery near Dongola.
