MILLER CITY, Ill. -- Mary Powless, 93, of Miller City passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, at Fairview Nursing Center.
She was born Oct. 31, 1925, to Joseph and Josephine Varisco Lala in Hammond, Louisiana. Mary married Alfred Eugene "Gene" Powless Sr. He preceded her Nov. 3, 1981.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and took deep pride in being a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church for over 40 years.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Brenda Bailey of Du Quoin, Illinois, and Janet Bagby of Spartanburg, South Carolina; granddaughters, Dana (Paul) Woosley of Loveland, Ohio, Laurie (Sean) Bell of Camarillo, California, and Raelen Bagby of Spartanburg; a grandson, Marc Bagby (Lisa Ann Miko Ancheta) of Honolulu; great-grandchildren, Amanda and Matthew Woosley of Loveland, Andrew Bell of Camarillo, Antony Bagby of Honolulu and Jaelyn Bagby-Gentry of Spartanburg; a sister, Rose Notariano of Hammond; many other relatives; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a son, Alfred Eugene Powless Jr.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cairo, Illinois, with the Mass of Christian burial beginning at noon, with Father Chris Mujule as celebrant. Interment will follow at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cairo.
