Mary Evelyn Penrod, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at her home.

She was born Oct. 20, 1921, in Marquand, Missouri, to Jessie F. and Rhetta Philps Cornman. She and Dennis Lee Penrod were married May 6, 1939, at Perryville, Missouri. He died May 17, 1993.

Mary was a member of American Legion Post 63 Auxiliary and former member of the Cape Girardeau Police Auxiliary. She was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include six daughters, Mary Francis (Ray) Sweary of Clinton, Missouri, Edith Menz of Sikeston, Missouri, Martha (James) Ourth and Karen Penrod of Cape Girardeau, Roslyn (Mike Powell) Marberry of Jackson and Doris (William) Black of Belding, Michigan; 13 grandchildren, Dewayne, Theresa, Becky, Chris, Jesse, Ashley, Patrick, Joe, Mary Ellen, Shannon, Justin, Autumn and Traci; four great-grandchildren, Hanna, Taylor, Dawn and Jeremy; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Lorenza Dowell "Jack" Penrod, who died May 8, 2010; three sisters and a brother.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Stan Hargis officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
