SIKESTON, Mo. -- Mary E. Mitchell, 76, of Sikeston died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Clearview Nursing Center. She was born April 30, 1926, in Walls, Miss., daughter of Zingo and Essie Sloan. She married Jimmie Mitchell, who preceded her in death. Mitchell was a retired cook and had lived in Missouri since 1955. She was a member of Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church...

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Mary E. Mitchell, 76, of Sikeston died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Clearview Nursing Center.

She was born April 30, 1926, in Walls, Miss., daughter of Zingo and Essie Sloan. She married Jimmie Mitchell, who preceded her in death.

Mitchell was a retired cook and had lived in Missouri since 1955. She was a member of Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Willie Savage of Sikeston; two daughters, Maxine Johnson of Sikeston, Mary Wright of Atlanta, Ga.; stepmother, Roberta Sloan of Wyatt, Mo.; four sisters, Lillian Bankhead and Essie Greer of Wyatt, Ethel Sloan and Ophelia Locust of Milwaukee, Wis.

Also surviving are seven brothers, Johnny Sloan of Hernando, Miss., Bobby and Frank Sloan of Milwaukee, Larry, Lindsay, Jimmy and William Sloan, all of Wyatt; 16 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, three brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call at Travelers Rest Church from 11 a.m. to service time Saturday.

The funeral will be at noon Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Herman Gardner officiating. Burial will be in Sunset of Memories Cemetery.

Williams Funeral Home in Sikeston is in charge of arrangements.
