Mary L. Miller, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She was born Oct. 4, 1920, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Robert and Mina Grieb Moore. She and George E. Miller were married Sept. 20, 1940, in Cape Girardeau. He died July 26, 2003...

Mary L. Miller, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born Oct. 4, 1920, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Robert and Mina Grieb Moore. She and George E. Miller were married Sept. 20, 1940, in Cape Girardeau. He died July 26, 2003.

Miller was a graduate of Central High School. She had worked at J.C. Penney. She was named most valuable player during the 1940s with the women's fast pitch softball.

She was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church, former member of First Baptist Church, and a Sunday school teacher many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Vicki McKinney and Jill Halbert of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Terry Miller of Thomaston, Ga., Lynn Miller of Cape Girardeau; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with Dr. Derek Staples officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
