CAPE GIRARDEAU - Sister Mary Magdola Knaup, a former teacher at St. Mary's Cathedral School in Cape Girardeau, died Thursday, March 7, 1991. She was 85.
She died at the Villa Gesu Retirement Home for Sisters of Notre Dame in St. Louis.
She taught at St. Mary's from 1970 to 1984 before retiring because of ill health. In addition to Missouri, she taught at schools in Mississippi, California, and Illinois.
She was born Oct. 15, 1905 in Cape Girardeau to William and Mary Frielinghaus Knaup. Following grade school she entered the Order of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, making her first vows in 1926.
Surviving are two sisters, Anna Knaup Schonhoff and Rose Knaup Compas, both of Cape Girardeau. Also surviving are five nephews, four nieces, twelve great-nieces, and 19 great-nephews.
Two brothers, William and John Knaup, and a sister, Helen Knaup, preceded her in death.
Prayer services will be at 7 p.m. today at Villa Gesu. Funeral mass will be at Villa Gesu at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will also be at Villa Gesu.
