Mary Louise Carlos, 78, of La Jolla, Calif., died Sunday, Dec. 17, 1995, in La Jolla, following a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 25, 1917, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Charles A. and Louise Vasterling Himmelberger. She first married Lehman Finch and lived in Cape Girardeau until 1960. She later married Lloyd Pearson Carlos of Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1963. He died in 1986.
Carlos moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1986, and then to La Jolla in 1993.
She attended Katherine Gibbs College, Fairmont Junior College, and received a bachelor of arts degree in English history from the University of Missouri. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, P.E.O., and life master of the American Contract Bridge League.
A supporter of the arts, Carlos was an accomplished watercolorist. She volunteered many hours to charitable organizations, including Girl Scouts, Southeast Missouri Hospital, International Red Cross, National Humane Society, SPCA, and Honolulu Zoo.
Survivors include a daughter, Nadean Finch Hampton of Dallas; a son, Charles Finch of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held at sea.
