THEBES, Ill. -- Mary Jane Wallis Kaufman, 83, of Thebes died at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020, at her home.
She was born March 18, 1937, in Racine, Wisconsin, to Charles Edward and Hattie Wallis. She married Thomas "T.D." Kaufman Sr. on Nov. 16, 1956.
Mary Jane was a cool mother to her kids and would often even listen to their music. Elvis was her favorite performer. Besides being a wife and mother to eight children, she worked nearly 30 years at Florsheim Shoe Co. She attended Valley Mission Pentecostal Church.
She is survived by her sons, John Edward (Tina) Kaufman, Thomas Daniel (Donna) Kaufman Jr. and Dwain Scott (Sharon) Kaufman; daughters, Mary Elizabeth Scronce, Tammy Lynn Kaufman, Yvonne Colette (James) McLane, Loralie Ann (Bobby) Mayberry and Alice Elaine (Michael) Johnson; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Shirley Jenson, Sharon Songer, Bev Joungling, Pam Cory and Patricia Sagura.
She was preceded in death by her husband; mother; father; stepmother, Alice; and sisters, Mickie Diaz, Debbie Bryant and Thelma Theyerl.
Funeral will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, with the Revs. James McLane and Bobby Mayberry officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home. Private inurnment will take place later at Lindsey Cemetery in McClure, Illinois.
