Mary Holmes

ANNA, Ill. -- Mary Holmes, 98, of Anna died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin, Ill.

She was born Aug. 11, 1904, in Centreville, Miss., daughter of John and Cornelia Cammack Fletcher. She and Frank J. Holmes were married Aug. 14, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Holmes lived most of her life in Cairo and Anna. She was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church. In her younger years she taught all age groups in Sunday school and Bible school. She was a senior volunteer many years and a member of Anna First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, James Holmes of Carterville, Ill.; a granddaughter; and two great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and six sisters.

Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Anna after 11 a.m. Monday.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Steve Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Anna Cemetery.
