SIKESTON -- Mary Frances Middleton, 74, of Washington, D.C., formerly of Sikeston, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1991, at the Georgetown University Hospital in Washington D.C.
She was born June 26, 1917 at Caruthersville, daughter of George Thomas and Nina Catherine Byrne Middleton.
A resident of Washington D.C. for the past 26 years, she was a member of the Catholic church. She had worked as a disbursing officer in foreign service for the U.S. Government State Department.
She was a graduate of the Sikeston High School class of 1934 and attended Strayer College in Washington D.C. She had served on the foreign service staff at the U.S. embassies in Ankara, Turkey; Frankfurt, West Germany; New Delhi, India; Dakar, Senegal; Kuala Lumpur, Malaia; and the U.S. Consulate in Bremen, Germany.
After retirement, she served for 22 years as a volunteer at the International Visitor's Information Service and Washington D.C. Visitor's Center, assisting foreign visitors in their U.S. travels.
She is survived by one brother, James Middleton, Torrance, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and one nephew.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston where rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the St. Francis Xavier Church in Sikeston with the Rev. Roger Leveillee, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Scott City officiating.
Burial will follow at the Sikeston City Cemetery.
