Childress, 84, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Manor Care Nursing and Rehab Center in Milford, Ohio.

She was born Feb. 22,1918, in Mendota, Ill., daughter of John Willard and Yetta Kooken Stokeley. She married Judge James Elmer Childress, who died Feb. 26, 1970.

Formerly of Sikeston, Childress had been a bookkeeper. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pensacola, Fla., and member of Sikeston Chapter 137 Order of Eastern Star. She had been a member and organist at First United Methodist Church in Sikeston during the 1960s and 1970s.

Survivors include two sons, John Childress of Cincinnati, Joe Childress of Sikeston; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister.
