CAIRO, Ill. -- Mary Elizabeth Burnley, 87, of Cairo died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at her home. She was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Barlow, Ky., daughter of Louis Holbert and Opal Mae Pace Rice. CAIRO, Ill. -- Mary Elizabeth Burnley, 87, of Cairo died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at her home.

She was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Barlow, Ky., daughter of Louis Holbert and Opal Mae Pace Rice. She married Edwin Lake Burnley, who died in 2006.

Burnley was a member of Kevil United Methodist Church, Ladies Auxiliary to American Legion Post 3 in LaCenter, Ky., and was a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Barkett of Cairo; a son, Ben Burnley of Henderson, Ky.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Kevil.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home, with Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating. Interment will be in Woodville Cemetery.
