Mary Irene Harvell Bailey, 84, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at Regent Care Center in San Antonio. She was born Sept. 1, 1918, in Savannah, Tenn., daughter of George T. and Florence McCollum Harvell. She married Marshall T. Bailey Oct. 12, 1946, in Charleston, Mo. He preceded her in death Sept. 8, 1972...

Mary Irene Harvell Bailey, 84, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at Regent Care Center in San Antonio.

She was born Sept. 1, 1918, in Savannah, Tenn., daughter of George T. and Florence McCollum Harvell. She married Marshall T. Bailey Oct. 12, 1946, in Charleston, Mo. He preceded her in death Sept. 8, 1972.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. She graduated in 1952 from Southeast Missouri State College and received her master's degree in 1976 from Southeast Missouri State University. She taught school for 33 years, the last 18 of her teaching career at Scott City Elementary School. She was an avid gardener and devoted grandmother.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Bailey Edwards of San Antonio; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn Edwards and Marshall T. Edwards, both of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Will Joe Harvell, John Wesley Harvell, and George T. Harvell, Jr.; and two sisters, Emily Pauline Stockman and Thelma Jean Harvell.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jay White officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery at Charleston.
