Mary Alice Eaker
Mary Alice Eaker, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at Ratliff Care Center.
She was born June 19, 1924, in Chaffee, Mo., daughter of Claude and Edith Blackwell Daugherty. She and James "Jim" Eaker were married Dec. 13, 1943, in Durham, N.C.
Eaker was a graduate of Chaffee High School. She was Mrs. Missouri in 1958. She was a passionate writer and often wrote letters to the editor regarding various issues.
She was secretary/treasurer of James Eaker Contractor Inc. Eaker was a former member of First Baptist Church and current member of Lynwood Baptist Church. She was a member of National Secretaries Organization.
Survivors include her husband, James "Jim" Eaker of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Lisa (Jim) Watkins of Overland Park, Kan.; three grandsons, David Wright, Joshua Watkins and Joel Watkins; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 1 p.m. to service time Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the Bringing In His Harvest Fund at Lynwood Baptist Church.
