Marvin Kern Suedmeyer, 93, of Mission Viejo, Calif., died Tuesday, July 7, 2009. He was born Nov. 8, 1915, in St. Louis, son of William P. and Katherine C. Suedmeyer. Marvin Kern Suedmeyer, 93, of Mission Viejo, Calif., died Tuesday, July 7, 2009.

He was born Nov. 8, 1915, in St. Louis, son of William P. and Katherine C. Suedmeyer. He married Marcella Dingwirth on Aug. 20, 1940. She preceded him in death.

After completing high school he worked for the family business, Suedmeyer and Sons Funeral Home in St. Louis.

Shortly thereafter he joined the Navy, where he was a signalman first class. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor and received the Good Conduct Medal, American and Asiatic Pacific 5 Stars and the Bronze Star.

He continued to work for the Navy 30 years as a civilian, retiring in 1971 in San Diego. He later moved to Mission Viejo.

Survivors include two nephews, Robert Suedmeyer and wife Mimi of St. Louis, Howard Suedmeyer and wife Martha of Jackson; a niece-in-law, Elizabeth of St. Louis; and many great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and eight brothers. He often visited his brother, Howard, in Cape Girardeau.

A graveside service was held Monday at Friedens Cemetery in St. Louis.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
