JACKSON -- Marvin F. Proffer, 83, of Jackson died Thursday, April 15, 1999, at his home. He was born Oct. 29, 1915, at Crump, son of Andrew J. and Blanch Proffer. He and Grace Davenport were married March 5, 1938. Proffer was a lifetime carpenter and cabinetmaker. He was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ, member and past commander of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 and a member of the honor guard...

JACKSON -- Marvin F. Proffer, 83, of Jackson died Thursday, April 15, 1999, at his home.

He was born Oct. 29, 1915, at Crump, son of Andrew J. and Blanch Proffer. He and Grace Davenport were married March 5, 1938.

Proffer was a lifetime carpenter and cabinetmaker. He was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ, member and past commander of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 and a member of the honor guard.

He served in the U.S. Army with the 53rd Field Artillery Battalion during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Nora Ahrens of Jackson, Mary Schlimpert of Altenburg, Glenda Fornkahl of Cape Girardeau; a son, Marvin K. Proffer of DeSoto; a brother, Glenn Proffer of Burfordville; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today. An honor guard service will be held at 7.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
